Some government groups were created by state statute like the Board of Selectmen (RSA 41), the Budget Committee (RSA 32:15), Police Department (RSA 105), and Fire Department (RSA 154). Others were created by the town to manage certain government functions or services like the Conservation Commission, Building Department, and Sewer Commission. The terms board, committee, and commission seem to be used interchangeably.
