Keeper of the Roads
The Allenstown Highway Department at 161 Granite St. is responsible for maintaining town roads year round, plowing the roads in the winter, providing town residents access to the Transfer Station three days a week, and promoting recycling of brush, yard waste like leaves and grass), and scrap metal (including food cans).
The Transfer Station (AKA the town dump) is a good place to meet your neighbors. The place is especially busy on Saturdays when most people "make a run to the dump."
At the March 10, 2026 town elections, voters approved Article 23 which authorized the town to raise and expend an additional $150,000 (to be added to your tax bill) to allow residents to once again dispose of household trash at the Transfer Station only.
The road agent plans to buy several dumpsters for about $17,000. The rest of the funds will be used to pay for trash disposal during the year. Because this was done via a warrant article, it expires after a year and would have to be reintroduced or added to next year's Solid Waste budget.
The road agent was given approval by the selectmen to skip the Request for Proposal (RFP) to find the best vendor to haul away the trash. The days and times when residents can dispose of trash will still need to be determined and the start of trash collection will likely start no earlier than May 2026.
