Town Hall Check town web site for current business hours. Hot Weather and Mellow MusicDateline: June 30, 2021 The chance of rain in the June 20th forecast slowly evolved into a chance of hot weather on June 27th, the day of the concert. But there was a strong breeze throughout the afternoon that made the day tolerable. Keith Klawes and his ARD cooking crew arrived around 3 pm as did another crew from ARD who were there to offer ARD logo merchandise for sale. Green Heron was in the next vehicle to arrive and they began setting up their gear in the old gazebo. Several selectmen arrived a bit later and attendees slowly started filling up the lawn, vying for more comfortable seating under the shade of the trees on the lawn.
The concert began a little after 4 p.m. after an introduction by the EDC Chairman. It seemed to become a bit more festive with each succeeding bluegrass tune. Little children could be seen toddling up to the gazebo and getting into the music.
The food concession received a fairly steady stream of customers with people especially enjoying the Italian Sausage Subs and the Steak and Cheese Subs. We even had a visit by an Allenstown police officer.
Even with the heat, we still managed to draw a crowd of about 55 attendees. And they stayed for the whole concert, too. Green Heron also brought with them their latest music album called "Four Feet on the Floorboards." They sang a few enjoyable songs from that album.
Also, this being the Blueberry Express Park, they honored the old Suncook Valley Railroad with a rousing, foot-stomping rendition of that classic bluegrass instrumental, "The Orange Blossom Special." That tune, written in 1939 by fiddlers Ervin T. Rouse and Chubby Wise, was inspired by the new, streamlined, luxury train that ran from New York City, through Florida's orange groves, and on to Miami.
After that amazing performance, a few dogs who enjoyed the tune had to rest up from playing with each other.
A very enjoyable concert was over before we knew it. As people were leaving, many commented on how much they liked it, and some asked if there would be another concert. The reply was, yes, come back on August 15th for the next one, featuring local pop rock performers, Crazy Steve and Friends. What You Can DoKeep checking Allenstown-alt.org and the Town News on the town web site for details. Concert yard signs and flyers are also to be posted around town soon. Also, if you want to hear Green Heron perform again, in the New Hampshire Summer Guide booklet, they will be at the Belknap Mill Arts in the Park Concert Series in Laconia on July 30th.
