Pain at the Gas Pump:
From $2.00 to Almost $5.00 a Gallon

Dateline: July 2, 2022

When you watch the daily news reports on gasoline prices across the country, they always show current gas price signs around the country and then state something like "compared to $x.xx a year ago."

Well that is deceptive because the gasoline prices have been a moving target since January 2021. That date should be used as the baseline because it is a fact that prices did not start this onward and upward movement until President Biden took office and started what has recently been called a War on Fossil Fuels.

The following table shows actual prices in and around Allenstown for "Regular" unleaded gas from December 2020 to June 2022. These prices come from the writer's personal record book.

What You Can Do

Consider requesting that the federal goverment rescind the executive orders and policies that stopped or severely curtailed the shipment and production of domestic oil and gas. The United States had been the leading producer until January 2021. It seems illogical to shut down domestic production of fuels and then go hat in hand to places like Saudi Arabia and Venezuela to ask them to send us more of THEIR oil and gas.

You might also reconsider the the siren song for electric vehicles, which are likely to put an increased strain on the power plants that use coal, oil, or gas to create the electricity w use in our homes and businesses.

The solarreviews.com web site posted prices (as of June 23, 2022) for Tesla cars for example. For cars that claim at least a 300 mile range,

  • The base model prices range from $57,990 to $138,990.
  • Fully loaded Teslas cost from $74,490 to $160,990.
  • Compare that to a 2022 Chevy Equinox ($26,050 to $32,850 on cars.com) or
  • A 2022 Ford Edge ($34,905 to $43,760 on kbb.com).
