Town Collaborates with Purmore Disposal
Dateline: Sep. 16, 2025
Back in March, Allenstown voters chose the much lower default town budget not realizing that this would force the Selectmen to cut much spending. One of the cuts eliminated trash collection as of May 17 and replaced it with a list of private pay vendors. This might be called "act in haste, repent at leisure." But on September 6, a 90-day pilot trash collection program was announced.
The Purmore Trash Collection Station
In collaboration with Purmore Disposal, the Selectmen set up a program that started on Sept. 6. Residents can bring their household trash to the Transfer Station on Granite St. on Saturdays between 8 a.m. and 3.pm. They can then deposit their trash into a 96 gallon barrel which acts as a standard measure. The fee is $9.00 for one barrel and $3.00 for an additional barrel, payable with a credit card only. Purmore staff will then transfer the contents to their disposal truck.
Owners of Purmore Disposal
Owners Derik "The Brains" Purpura and Shawn "The Brawn" Mores said they hope this will help residents who may not want to pay the higher monthly fee that many private vendors charge. The fee of $9.00 per barrel per week works out to $39.00 per month. If you accumulate less than 96 gallons of trash each week and can hold off, you might go every two weeks instead to lower your disposal cost. For example, you might go to a local store and purchase a 32- or 45-gallon barrel and use that as your standard measure.
Purmore also offers several options for curbside pickup of household trash such as one, four, or eight bags. For example, the fee for a single 25-lb. bag is $5.25. Wednesday is the pickup day in Allenstown. They also offer pickup of bulky items like furniture, couches, bedding, and appliances, as well as junk removal.
