New Repair Shop in Town
Zoom in to see the words Truck, Diesel, and Auto.
It's Pembroke's loss but Allenstown's gain. The small engine repair shop called Mowers & Blowers & More left their building on Route 3 just up the hill from the double-decker bridge and took over Keith's Truck Service at 124 Granite St.
The local small engine shop was originally in Allenstown, down on River Road, operate by Hank Jordan, and called Hank's Small Engine Repair. When he retired several years ago, Al Stebens and his family took over the operation. They renamed it Hank & Al's and later moved to Chase's Garage on Route 3 in Pembroke.
Five years ago, Adam Mahair took over the business, gave it the new name, and continued operating from the Route 3 shop.
He explained how the move to Allenstown happened. "The space we were working in was too small and it had a lift for vehicles but the overhead door limited how high it could safely go. When I learned that Keith's Truck Service was closing due to retirement, I checked it out and made Keith Barton an offer. This shop is so much bigger and has much more potential."
They opened for business on April 1st. They now offer small engine repairs and automotive repairs like oil changes, tires, brakes, state inspections, and four wheel alignments in the front two bays.
He pointed to a new 4-post lift they installed in early May. "I prefer this kind of lift since it has ramps that a car can drive onto. With the other style, you have to lift the vehicle by its frame. I want to start doing inexpensive oil changes that don't require customers to schedule an appointment. I also hope to be doing oil undercoating for vehicles, especially in the fall."
He pointed to a large bay in the rear of the building that he plans to use for extra vehicle work spaces.
When asked what was the most popular service, he replied, "small engine repairs." This includes items such as lawn mowers, lawn tractors, chain saws, and leaf blowers.
When the discussion came to community outreach, Mr. Mahair said, "I have a daughter attending Pembroke Academy, and I support the Girls' Basketball Team. I also donate to other local causes."
Mr. Mahair said, "It will take a while to get the shop interior cleaned up. There is a lot of concrete, logs, and other material out front that needs to be removed. I plan to clean up the property and get the building updated in the near future." He hopes that Keith comes back to retrieve his rustic sign above the garage doors.
