The 200th Anniversary of the Old Allenstown Meeting House was a great success. The day started off threatening rain, but for the most part, it was just overcast.

The mock Selectmen's meeting was the most fun of the day. We took part in a mock town meeting, circa 1815. Several visitors were given scripts and asked to portray residents who had complaints.

The "Road Agent" was chastised for not fixing the roads. His excuse was that there was insufficient rum to motivate the workers. Other "residents" petitioned for tax abatements because a horse or a cow had died during the year. One resident complained about his property tax bill increasing a whopping 5 cents per thousand.

It was the most fun anyone has ever had at a "town meeting."

James L. Garvin, retired State Architectural Historian, presented a history of the Meeting House.

Bob Kilham, Jr., historical musician, provided an enjoyable and lively concert of American songs of the 1800s accompanied by a variety of traditional musical instruments like a vintage banjo. Some of the more memorable songs came from the Civil War era, songs such as "Rally Round the Flag," "Dixie," and "The Battle Hymn of the Republic."
