Election Results Rather Positive

On Election Day, another nor'easter blew into New Hampshire, dumping at least two feet of snow. Despite that, the polls remained open. Turnout was very low, with only 271 out of 2969 registered voters making it to the polls. Once again the tail has wagged the dog with a low 9% voter turnout.

It leads to an interesting question: if there had been no snowstorm, how many of the missing voters would still not have cared about exercising their right to vote?

Town Results

Sandy McKenney is the new Selectman and Jim Rodger is the new Sewer Commissioner. Everyone else ran unopposed.

The proposed town budget ($4,003,181) was voted down, therefore the less costly default budget (3,962,560) was approved. All the other articles passed.

Article 14, on the Business Tax Exemption, was approved by 70% of the voters. As of April 1st, businesses will be able to apply for the exemptions.

School Results

On the school side, the $10,077,085 proposed school budget was voted down in favor of the $9,981,555 default budget by 172 No - 87 Yes. You can assume the 87 Yes votes were from supporters of more school spending.

The other three warrant articles passed.

Another noticeable result was the somewhat low vote for the two unopposed school board candidates.
