Upper Deerfield Rd. Paving Project. At the June 5 Selectmen's meeting, the Board accepted the bid from Advanced Excavating Co. as the best choice. This is the same company that the state hired to pave the first 2 1/2 miles of Deerfield Rd. last summer. The bids were $59,616 for Phase I and $123,650 for Phase II. Mr. Mulholland was directed to draft a contract to issue to Advanced Excavating.

Red Pine Infestation. Red Pine Scale, a small insect that feeds on red pine needles, had infested about 120 acres in Bear Brook State Park. With no simple way to control the insects, which are spread by the wind, birds, or squirrels, the NH Forest Management Bureau remove and sold the trees for lumber last winter while the insects were dormant. This will hopefully stop their spread northward. (Concord Monitor, Nov. 18, 2012)

The most visible areas are right along Deerfield Rd. and New Rye Rd. near the Old Meeting House.
